Physically exhausting to work with Salman: Abhinav

Salman Khan in a fiesty combact scene with Sonu Sood.

Knowing that Salman Khan was a huge star, first-time director Abhinav Kashyap considered himself lucky when he gave the nod to his film, Dabangg. But it was only when Kashyap started shooting with the actor that he actually realised Khan’s superstar status and immense popularity amongst the masses.

“A major portion of the film was shot in Wai, a small hamlet in Maharashtra. Every day, hordes of people would turn up to see Salman and they would scream out ‘Salman bhai, Salman bhai’. We could not control the din as we were shooting outdoors. Most of the time I would running up to Salman to give him instructions since he could not hear me from where I was standing. Understandably, I would be physically exhausted by the end of the day,” laughed Kashyap.

Don’t cheat in love: Salman

Guess who's talking about pyaar, ishq aur dhoka! Well, it's none other than Salman Khan!

Sallubhai sends out a 'don't cheat' message on satellite television. It's on the show Emotional Atyachaar 2 on UTV Bindass tonight (Saturday) at 7 pm. Salman's inspecting the case of Sudhiksha, who suspects her boyfriend isn't loyal to her. After hearing the entire story narrated by host Pravesh Rana, Salman in his inimitable style gave a word of advice to viewers telling them what he feels about a relationship and how one must realise that flirting and cheating are two entirely different things with a line that should not be crossed.

Sudhiksha doubts Manish because he is a compulsive liar and Manish's ex-girlfriend Shikha called up Sudiksha cautioning her.

It is exciting to have Salman Khan on the show advising the youth on relationships, says Nikhil Gandhi, channel head of UTV Bindass. "This is the No.1 show in the youth television space. Today the youth is very clear about not being taken for granted by anybody and they are ready to face reality. It's their overall attitude towards life which is the secret behind the success of Emotional Atyachaar, a show that brings the grim realities and raw emotions to the viewers," says Gandhi.

The episode also saw Salman giving a sneak peak of Robin Hood Pandey, his character from the upcoming film Dabbang, which is an Arbaaz Khan Production with music by T-Series.
Finally when asked what he'd do if such a sting operation was done on him, Salman laughed saying, "If emotional atyachaar was ever done on me, you guys would get stuff that you'd never be able to put on TV."

I was to play Salman role in 'Dabangg': Sonu Sood

Known for doing intense roles, actor Sonu Sood plays a young politician in upcoming film 'Dabangg'. But he reveals that he was actually supposed to play the lead role, now being essayed by Salman Khan.

'The film was brought to me before Salman came on board. Initially I was supposed to do Salman's role of a cop... but when he decided to be a part of the film, I was offered the role of the youth politician that I'm now playing,' Sonu told IANS in an interview.

The actor, whose acting skills came to the fore in films like 'Yuva' and 'Jodhaa Akbar', says he is not afraid of being overshadowed by the superstar.

'I'm not scared that I'll get overshadowed in the film because of the presence of Salman. I completely trust Abhinav Kashyap, the director, who was Mani Ratnam's assistant director during 'Yuva'.

'I know him since those days. Also, the character I'm playing is quite strong; so being sidelined was something that never bothered me,' said Sonu, whose character in the film is named Cheddi Singh.

Directed by Kashyap and produced by Salman's younger brother, actor Arbaaz Khan, 'Dabangg' is set to hit screens Sep 10. Apart from Salman and Sonu, the film also stars Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna and Mahesh Manjrekar among others.

Sonu calls his character in the film a modern-day Gabbar Singh of 'Sholay' fame. The actor adds that he got into the skin of his character by recalling the mannerisms of some of his classmates from engineering college.

'Cheddi Singh is a very powerful guy in his area and is very unpredictable. He is like a modern Gabbar. He rules the place he is in. But then things change for him when Salman's character makes an entry,' the 37-year-old said.

'When I was doing my engineering, I had a lot of friends from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who were into youth politics; so I know the body language of people from that area. I know how they react to things, their mannerisms...That actually helped me get into the skin of my character,' he

Sonu, who made his Bollywood debut with 'Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh' in 2002, was better noticed as Abhishek Bachchan's brother in Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva' (2004). He then went on to do films like 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' (2005), 'Sheesha' (2005), 'Siskiyaan' (2005) and more recently 'Singh Is Kinng' (2008) and 'Jodhaa Akbar' (2008) among others.

Even though the actor is hungry for more meaty roles, he is happy that he has been able to survive in the industry so long.

'I'm happy with the way my career is moving but still there's a lot of hunger in me to do more...I want lots more to be offered to me. But still I'm happy with what I've achieved because it wasn't easy for a person like me, who is not from a film background, to come and get work in the industry,' Sonu said.

'Now I just work on my survival tactics. I only do films that really excite me as an actor. I give 100 percent to my character, I do rehearsals, I get involved and give my inputs to the director too. Also, I'm very focused that this is the place for me. I have nowhere else to go and I have to survive in this industry by hook or by crook. I take this as a challenge,' he added.

Salman gifts sis Alvira penthouse worth 10 crore:)

Salman Khan bought sister Alvira Agnihotri an apartment worth Rs 10 crore last week. The actor's behna (he lovingly calls her Baby) is married to actor-turned-producer Atul Agnihotri.

Baby lives near their parents' home in Bandra, but now her new address is a swanky penthouse in Pacific Heights, a building near Rizvi Complex off Carter Road, in the same suburb. According to a real estate broker from the suburb, the penthouse measures 4,000 square feet. "Going by the current rate (Rs 25,000 per sq ft), the flat would cost around Rs 10 crore," said the broker.

When contacted Atul said, "It isn't true. We are looking at a new place, but we haven't bought any property at the moment."

Naya ghar
Rizvi Builders' Pacific Heights is one of the most hi-tech buildings in the suburb. It offers video intercom facility with visitors in the lobby, at the door, and residents of other apartments. It also boasts of alarm systems to warn of fire, gas leak and burglars, and lights with sensors so you don't have to worry about switching them off when you leave a room.

'Dabangg is a masala film' - sohail

Dabangg is a masala film'
Elina Priyadarshini Nayak , TNN, Sep 1, 2010

Though his acting career didn't take off initially, Sohail Khan has now succeeded in coming out of the shadow of his superstar bother Salman Khan.

Over the years, he has managed to carve a niche for himself as a producer with hits like Hello Brother, Partner and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. Sohail speaks about his family bonding, Salman Khan and much more...

Pre-release buzz
His elder brother Arbaaz Khan's first home production Dabangg is yet to release, but a lot of buzz has been created about this film. On this he says, "We are not doing anything extra apart from promoting, because one has to create awareness about any film. Dabangg is a masala and action-packed family film and I think that's the reason it's getting such a huge response even before its release. People have started liking it already!" The movie has Salman, Arbaaz and Malaika Arora Khan- three members of the family. Would the audience get to see Sohail in the movie also? He replies with a laugh, "Main chota bhai hoon toh mujhe dusare kaam pe laga diya!"

Munni badnaam hui...
Malaika Arora's hot item song Munni badnaam hui... has become a huge hit and is creating waves. "For a successful movie, an entertainment value is required. I think the song Munni... has added to this quotient. The song has worked out really well and Malaika was best suited for this number." And what about this song being in news these days for more reasons, as a social activist has filed a suit seeking that the word 'Hindustan' should be deleted? "If anybody has any problem with the word 'Hindustan', we will remove it or replace it. We don't want to hurt anybody's sentiments," says he. So, does this controversy add to the publicity of the film? "People can say what they want! But, we are not doing anything for publicity," says he.

An all-rounder
Along with acting and producing, Sohail has also written scripts for films like Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hello Brother and Kissan. Ask him which is that one genre he enjoys the most and he says, "I entered the industry to act and since then a learning process has started. When I read any script, I feel I can produce it, at times I feel I can act in it and many a time I feel I can direct it too. So, I am enjoying doing all of them." Any upcoming projects as as an actor? He laughs and says, "I am not getting any roles, and if I get anything right, I will do it. I am a very relaxed person and not very ambitious."

Salim Khan to distribute Dabangg in CI and Rajasth

Salim Khan to distribute Dabangg in CI and Rajasthan territories

Title We Are Family is not just apt for the Karan Johar production, it pretty much holds true for Khan family as well. With Dabangg looking piping hot and all set to be a huge earner at the box office, the Khan family has now come together to rake in some good moolah as well. Rather than selling the film to outside distributors, Khans have decided to keep a major chunk of it within the family and extend the adage of 'all in the family'.

As per the latest developments, Salim Khan (father of Arbaaz, Salman and Sohail) would be distributing the film in CI and Rajasthan territories. This is not all as producer Arbaaz himself would distribute the film in Delhi, UP and East Punjab - some of the most lucrative territories that the country has after Mumbai.

Says a trade observer, "It was imperative that the family sticks to the film right through the release as well as post that rather than just releasing it for money and being happy with whatever they earned. Ensuring that distribution stays with them is also a means of telling the world that they are mighty confident of the film's prospects."

Arbaaz doesn't deny that he is confident about the film but also adds that distributing a film is nothing new for the family.

"Yes, the film is turning out to be huge and congratulatory messages have started coming in advance. It is always a good sign", he says while keeping his excitement in check, "However, we have always been into distributing films. When it comes to the CI territory, dad has distributed most of Salman's films there in the past. He has a distribution concern there so whether it is an in-house production or even outside productions, Salman's films are released in CI through him. But yes, this time he has picked up Rajasthan as well."

He also confirms that he too is stepping in to distribute the films in some important territories. "I wanted to exploit Delhi, UP and East Punjab territories and hence have personally stepped in for distribution as well", says Arbaaz.

The trade observer has the final word, "With the film seeing such huge hype, the makers could have made huge profits on the table by selling off all distribution rights. However, other than the monetary value, Dabangg also carries a huge emotional value for Khans there. Not just it stays on to be Arbaaz Khan's debut production; it also sees Salman Khan going all out to promote the film like never before. Malaika Arora Khan's 'Munni Badnaam' is a rage while Sohail Khan has silently worked in the background as well."

No wonder, one can see the entire family circle of Khans as well as film fraternity in general coming together in support of Dabangg, hence ensuring a huge release for the film. 10th September was never this hot.

Commenting on the performance of Shatrughan “Shotgun” Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha, Salman said, “ Sonakshi has done the film as if she has done 100 films before.”

So is Sallu Bhai’s new found love for Aamir an outcome of his rivalry with King Khan? “Sharukh and I don’t talk anymore. We had misunderstanding and hence parted ways.” Clarified Salman. And almost as an afterthought he added, “There is no chance of Shahrukh and Salman coming together in future.”

The curious appeal of Salman Khan:Pritish Nandy

Pritish Nandy
31 August 2010, 12:14 PM IST

After years, the promos of a film have really excited me and I'm dying to watch it, first day, first show. No, I have no idea if the film is good or bad. In all probability, it will be awful. Two recent films in this genre were ghastly, though they made lots of money in the box office. And one of them, being a Aamir Khan film, assumed iconic proportions and got the star the moniker of being a matchless marketing whiz, particularly because he stole the thunder from under Shah Rukh's nose. While Shah Rukh was doing his usual number for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Aamir came in from behind with his buzz cut ushers in the theatres announcing the arrival of a thunderous blockbuster two weeks later. The whole focus shifted overnight from Surinder Sahni to Sanjay Singhania. Both films were as ordinary as they come. But Aamir's went on to become a huge hit, announcing the arrival of a new genre in Bollywood: the Tamil bloodfest.

Its success quickened the release of another bloodfest, this time with Telugu origins: Wanted. You can't get cheesier than Wanted. It's possibly the worst movie you have seen, shoddily scripted, badly crafted, crudely put together: an astonishing display of plywood machismo. But even that couldn't stop it from becoming a huge blockbuster simply because Salman Superbrat swaggered through the film with his trademark cheekiness, doing nothing, just being himself. That made the movie. If, like me, you watch movies not at their premiere, or on TV, but in a typical old fashioned theatre, not even in a multiplex, you will figure why Salman works. His every strut is greeted with wolf whistles and cat calls. His every line of cheeky dialogue is loudly chanted by his fans and some of them, who are watching the film for the umpteenth time, anticipate his lines by screaming them out a split second before they are spoken on screen. This is clearly one star whose fans don't want him to act.

They want him to strut through the film, doing nothing more than delivering cheesy lines of dialogue and beating up guys beefier than him. And, O yes, they reserve the maximum applause for that one moment in a film when he takes his shirt off, either for the mother of a fight or a chalu song. In both, Salman has exactly the same slightly funny, slightly exasperated expression as if to say: Why the hell am I doing this shit?

Aamir's the opposite. He's intense to a fault. Every role appears to be a matter of life and death for him. He has to get it just right. His films too are exactly the opposite of Salman's. They are so carefully crafted that every emotion, every feeling is wrung out of every scene. Often even the manipulation shows. Most times he gets away with it simply because he's Aamir and can do no wrong. His producers too have taken on Shah Rukh at the numbers game. Huge full page ads declare box office figures that keep spiralling till the pundits finally throw up their hands in exasperation. Akshay Kumar's producers too briefly joined this numbers game but are now slightly subdued with Akshay having signed on a few duds. But Akshay remains chilled. He knows he has an innate goofy charm that can survive all the tacky screenplays he cheerfully sleepwalks through.

Funnily, barring Salman, the others are looking less and less like stars today. They are beginning to look like businessmen. Shah Rukh has even hit the cover of a business magazine and is sounding, behaving more like a producer than a star. So is Aamir. What they don't realise is that popular fan bases are not built on the imagery of businessmen or producers. The common man does not admire a bania. The villain in most films of my growing up years was the village mahajan or the city slicker in a white shark skin suit sitting with his bottle of Vat 69. India may have changed. Money is no longer a bad word but the man on the street still admires a hero, not a wealthy man. The iconic hero of Bollywood was for over two decades the Angry Young Man who fought the entire might of the system and brought it tumbling down.

This brings me back to Chulbul Pandey. I am sure Dabangg will be whatever. But what the heck, I love movies where a cracked hero walks through an equally cracked screenplay doing the weirdest, whackiest things, and no one does that better than Salman. Will I ever make a film like that? Unlikely. Will I recommend a film like that? Not over my dead body. Will I go to a sweaty, stinking theatre to watch it, surrounded by screaming, whistling, hysteric Salman fans? Yes, I will. That's the movie watching experience I pay for. It reminds me of my adolescence. It reminds of the time when movies were movies and heroes could do anything and get away with it.

The last chicken curry hero - SALMAN

The last chicken curry hero
Shah Rukh is too busy making sensitive movies/going sci-fi; Aamir spends all his time tweaking our box-office psyche and training us how to be better movie watchers

Last week we almost decided that Salman Khan would be the next Lounge cover. Hell, I even saw Veer—one of those rare Salman movies I just couldn’t bring myself to watch when it was released earlier this year.

It seemed like the perfect time to revisit the appeal of Bollywood’s craziest Khan. One film company head says that though, currently, Shah Rukh gets the best advance booking followed by Aamir, and then Salman, Dabangg—the latter’s new film that releases on 10 September—could change the rules. In trade lingo, the “pre-release buzz” for Dabangg is tremendous. Add that to the fact that Salman will host television’s biggest show, Bigg Boss. More importantly, there’s no disputing the fact that Salman Khan is Bollywood’s last “Bollywood” superstar, if you know what I mean

Shah Rukh is too busy making sensitive movies/going sci-fi; Aamir spends all his time tweaking our box-office psyche and training us how to be better movie watchers. But Salman is comfort food (think chicken curry, not dal-rice since he doesn’t understand the word vegetarian)—he embodies the psychedelic, pelvic-obsessed industry we grew up with, and not the multiplex maze it currently is. Those of you who worry about the overnight death of single-screen cinema and dancing in the aisles can surely understand the importance of Salman Khan?
Salman could end up being the last macho-masala super-entertainer of our times. Original bad boy Sanjay Dutt is now quite unwatchable; we seem mostly bored of poor Akshay Kumar’s brand of loud cinema; and Hrithik Roshan has always been too good-looking for Hindi cinema. But discount the eyebags/country-of-one accent and Salman looks/sounds better every year. At 45, as he confessed on NDTV during a visit to navy air station INS Hansa, he finds the way women react to him as he grows older a “little scary”. “There was a time when women had the hots for me but now it’s reducing,” he said. I’m sure he was joking.

Don’t send me hate mail for saying this but, if you can put aside his shadowy record of violence with women, it’s easy to understand the raw sexual appeal of Salman. He gets full marks for the ability to swagger comfortably in what is certainly Bollywood’s tightest collection of jeans. Add his other staples—leather jacket, sunglasses hooked into the neck of his jacket on the rare occasion he takes them off his nose, bandanna, boots, clunky leather belt—and nobody does biker chic like Salman.
Priya Ramani Blogs

He may not dance but he’s got all the moves. He flirted exquisitely with all the women who appeared on his television debut 10 Ka Dum—the supposedly sexy/worldly Mallika Sherawat sounded positively gauche when they bantered. And 5ft 8 inches is not short by Indian standards, ladies.

Enough has been written about his chest. It was bound to play an important part in the climax of Veer where Salman got a screenplay credit too. Hero takes a bullet in the heart, strips his armour to die, then recovers enough to win a battle bare-chested before collapsing. “I’ll be back again,” he announces before he dies, waxed chest in full view.

Which other hero does the 1980s-style entry any more? Which other hero can still excite audiences with a bizarre rinse, repeat punchline? Remember Wanted’s Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di, uske baad to main khud ki bhi nahi sunta or Veer’s Jahan se bhi pakadta hun, paanchser gosht nikalta hun. Dabangg’s one-liner will apparently be: kamaal karte ho Pandeyji.

So what if there’s never any continuity in the way Salman Khan looks through a film? Now you see hair, now you don’t. That’s part of his charm. So what if his dance directors tell him to do whatever it is he wants in the songs (usually, he opts to remove his shirt or flex his biceps but once in a while he might come up with the killer towel dance or the belt jiggle). In the last two decades, only Prabhu Deva has managed to squeeze some structured dance out of him.
Eventually we decided to keep the Salman cover story on hold, even though there’s a little bit of him in every Hindi film goer. Like the other two Khans, Salman is an important part of our pop history. We remember him doing bare-but-hairy-chested push-ups wearing jeans and high heeled shoes. We remember him playing a passionate saxophone without moving his fingers even once. And that was 1989. He gets full marks for history too.

Now Dabangg Sequel!

Mumbai: Now Dabangg Sequel!: Bollywood Star Salman Khan’s much ambitious project Dabangg is going to be released soon, but it’s being believed that its sequel is coming out soon.

Introducing Sonakshi Sinha, Dabangg will hit the theatres on September
10 and it’s being expected as a all time hit movie.

According to the latest reports, the film makers are super confident that Salman Khan’s Dabangg is gonna be a smashing hit.

Talking about Dabangg sequel actor Arbaaz Khan says, “If the movie turns out to be a huge hit, then why not!”

Arbaaz is looking quite confidents about the sequel of the movie. Salman Khan is playing the role of a cop, who is in love with Sonakshi
Sinha.

Is Salman still the most eligible bachelor?

Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor may be the hot young men who are currently making the women go weak in the knees, but nothing beats the magic of Salman Khan.

The bad boy of Bollywood still tops the list of ‘most wanted’ heroes that Bollywood’s hottest heroines would die to work with!

Vidya Balan recently revealed how she would love to work with the ‘Chata Badmaash’. Apparently, the actress is even going around declaring that Salman’s like the quintessential lover and that she would love to do a romantic role with him.

Working with Salman is high on Deepika’s agenda too. “I have not signed Atul Agnihotri’s production with Salman as I have not been approached but I’d love to work with Salman. Who won’t” questioned Deepika.

‘Khatta Meetha’ fame Kainaat Arora finds Salman extremely cool. The youngster who hails from Dehradun is jumping with joy ever since her film too faired well in Dehradun which is otherwise a land of Salman admirers! “In Dehradun, people only watch Salman Khan’s films in theatres but I am glad they watched mine too. I am hoping to work with Salman some day. That’s a dream” confessed Kainaat.

Salman’s current favourite and Dabangg co-star, Sonakshi Sinha too is mesmerized by her Robinhood Pandey so much so that she has already signed one more film with him. Sonakshi’s paintings too are inspired by Salman’s! Quite a Salman’s muse we must say.

South bombshells Asin, Laxmi Rai and even former Miss Sri Lanka Jacqueline Fernandez cannot stop going gaga over Bollywood’s original macho man.

“I was so excited when I met him and I’d love to meet him again” gushed Jacqueline.

We believe it’s the alleged ‘break-up’ news of Salman-Katrina that has upped Salman’s ‘eligible bachelor’ status amongst the hot ladies of Bollywood who would love to romance the actor...errr onscreen.

'Taali Maar' dialogues back with (D)abangg!

There was a time especially during the seventies when formula films ruled the roost and 'taali-maar' dialogues were as much a draw at the ticket window as any big star. And dialogue writers like Salim-Javed were asked to write punchy dialogues and hard-hitting one liners that would be loved by the audience.

However with time as love stories took over and revenge formula films took a back seat, dialogues too ceased to play a big part in the success of films and bordered more on natural conversations. But for a while as Bollywood's fascination for going retro started and 'masala' films started getting made, dialogues and one liners have made a resounding comeback.

One of the first film which saw this was Farah Khan's ode to the seventies, OM SHANTI OM, where Shah Rukh Khan's dialogue, 'Agar kisi ko shiddat se chaho to poori kayanat hamein usse milene ki koshish mein lag jaati hai..' became immortal and can be still heard in many serials and everyday use by movie buffs. Then came Salman Khan's WANTED and most of its dialogues and one liners like, 'Ek baar maine jo commitment kar liya to main khud ki bhi nahin sunta hoon' became super duper hit. After that we have had Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi's, whose one liners proved to be big draw in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. And things don't stop here as we have Salman Khan's upcoming Eid release DABANGG whose dialogue promos have created a great buzz amongst the people. And Salman in an interview to a leading television channel has promised that more interesting and punchy dialogues are in store as more and more promos unfold.

Well here is waiting eagerly for Eid and DABANGG to hear more punchy dialogues from Robin Hood Pandey.

From MAINE PYAAR KIYA to DABANGG: Role of folk

From MAINE PYAAR KIYA to DABANGG: Role of folk in Salman's career...Munni Badnam hui from DABANGG has a rustiness that has been the primary reason why it is dominating all the music charts. Set to score by Jatin Pandit, it indeed is a tipsy number. The playback for Munni Badnam hui has been given by duo Aishwarya Nigam and Mamta Sharma who were joint winners of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2006. Incidentally, Aishwarya Nigam had performed in Salman Khan's presence in 2005, and within 5 years life has turned full circle as the song sung by the sisters has become a smash hit all over the country and could give DABANGG a fabulous opening. Aishwarya Nigam has given the male voice over, while the female voice is by Mamta Sharma.

ncidentally, it was another Bihari singer, Sharda Sinha, whose song "Kahe tose sajna", from MAINE PYAAR KIYA", had become a rage and fans all over the country side were exposed to the outreach of the idiom of folk in its most rustic and simplest form, and with DABANNG it is another Bihari pair whose voice over has caught the imagination of the nation.

The reason why the song has caught the imagination of whole country is owing to the fact that it is a somewhat refined version of the famous Bhojpuri song "Launda badnam hua naseeban tere liye", which was sung by Rani Bala. A controversy may rear its head that the song has been lifted and credited to Jatin Pandit, as it supposedly happened in Salman Khan's earlier film HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM, whose song "Nimbuda Nimbuda", another folksy tipsy number was supposedly lifted by Ismail Durbar without acknowledging the original composer.

"Sallu enjoy every bit of Chulbul :Arbaaz Khan

It's the moment any journalist would avoid. Interviewing the producer of a film while the Censors are watching it to give their certification. Arbaaz Khan sends me a text message to call him at an unusual timing. It was 4.30pm. An unexpected text puts me in frenzy. I call him at 4.38 for the interview and off he goes in a flash on the other end. His voice sounds rapacious when he talks about his brother Salman Khan, his interest in Dabangg sounds obsessive, when he talks about his wife Malaika Arora Khan, he sounds unperturbed but then again, when I talk about his father Salim Khan he jumps back putting you in a scratchy situation. In short, Arbaaz Khan is like an eagle. He knows his job and hits you at the right time at the right place without you knowing its consequences. The result is obvious - The day he announced Dabangg, other biggies got unnerved and changed their release dates and made way for the Salman starrer. All the above defines a word called 'Producer'. In the words of Bob Weinstein, Hollywood's most famous producer, "Don't let your fear paralyze you. Prepare yourself not only technically but also emotionally." UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent talks to the first time producer Arbaaz Khan who can't wait to unleash his creation - The fearless Dabangg.

Da 'bang' of Dabangg

The first promo is a culmination of a lot of things. It's not just a very well cut promo. It's got a lot to do with the look of the film, the characters, the dialogues, production values. When there is a need for a film like Dabangg, you know nothing can stop it. People have been watching a lot of multiplex, frothy, new age cinema. Good. But here comes a rustic, rooted and the typical masala film of the 1990s where the hero is going to bash up all the baddies. There was a special intent to cut such a promo.God has been kind and I love this overwhelming response. The day the first promo came out; a tidal wave has been created.
Production was always at the back of my mind. It was something that I wanted to embark on. So when Abhinav Kashyap came with an offer, Dabangg became a catalyst and made me want to start my production house with it. I liked what Abhinav had narrated to me when he came up with the raw stage of just the idea. But I knew that the forty minute narration had a big potential. He was also looking for a producer and I gave him an offer which he couldn't refuse (laughs). I told him to relax and watch how Dabangg creates a bang which he would not have even seen thought of.

Salman 'Chulbul' Khan

Salman is always different in each of his films. He has grown in all his films in spite of few of his films doing not so good. There are films in which you are very good because you are a trained actor. But not all roles you do fit like a glove. No. Actors do a role for many reasons. Personal, friendly, professional, business, etc. And then there are roles like Chulbul Pandey where actors say that this is it, the role of a lifetime. A role which excites them, a role in which they can sink their teeth in, a role which they were waiting for. Salman did just that. He got so submerged into the role, the result is out for you to see. Salman enjoyed every bit of Chulbul and took it to another level.

Sonakshi was completely Salman's choice for Dabangg. We could've gone and made this film with an established actress but we decided not to. Then the questions: What if we take a new girl? What are the positives if we take a new face? Will a new face have the looks, the talent, the appeal, etc. So when Salman met Sonakshi at Amrita Arora's sangeet, he came up to me and said, "We've got the new girl". I asked him, "Who?" and he replied, "Sonakshi."

I was stunned. I wanted to start the next day itself. Sonakshi is a dear family friend of ours since many years and then being Shatrughan Sinha's daughter just doubles it up. She did have some training learning the dialect and all but she was a thorough professional from day one. She is brilliant.

Malaika 'Munni' Arora Khan

Yes, Munni is a hit, isn't she? (Laughs). Thanks to me too because I have a hand too in her selection. Every song she does, she takes my feedback. If the song is not good, even if a big star does it, it will go unheard. It's not that she is dancing with SRK or somebody else. Why a song does well? I personally believe even if Malaika was not there in 'Munni' number, it would still have been a hit. Choreography, Salman's entry and Malaika took the song to another level but the overall credit has to go to the music director.

Sonakshi was a thorough professional from day one. She is brilliant.
Sohail 'contribution' Khan

Yes, Sohail has given a lot of inputs in Dabangg. Sohail was very much involved in this film. He wasn't so much involved creatively. But cinema isn't alone about creativity. It is about the business too. There is administration aspect too without which you cannot make a movie. Sohail's entire support for Dabangg came from his expertise in business, in getting things organised. I garnered support from him.

Arbaaz 'twitter' Khan

No, no, no. I am on twitter thanks to Mr. Salman Khan. Twitter should thank Salman too (laughs). I've had some great response from the networking sites. You have to use these sites to promote your film and what's wrong? I will do my films publicity to get the visibility and will go to any extent in doing so because my money is at stake. I am not apologetic and this isn't a promotional gimmick. You have to get people to see your film and Twitter is just a medium through which we are making sure it happens.
Salim 'writer' Khan

Only Salman has worked in the script written by my father so far. It was Patthar Ke Phool. My dad has not been completely involved with writing but he has either doctored it or given a suggestion. How much of that we take is our decision. My dad is now retired and we want him to enjoy his life. He has worked hard and has been at his peak while he was working with Javed Akhtar as Salim-Javed. Now all a father wants is his sons to progress and we are doing just that. My dad is not at a stage where he has to run around and please the people only because they want to write better. But you never know, may be in a near future Sohail and I might have a script which we'd want my dad to do.

I lost a lot of weight: Salman

Bollywood hunk Salman Khan, who is once again playing a cop in his brother Arbaaz Khan's debut production "Dabangg", says he has a special connect with police as his grandfather was a police officer and, of course, due to his own run-ins with the law.

"I think because my grandfather was deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, Indore, I have this special thing for the cops. I have also shared a very long relationship...!" Salman told with a laugh.

The actor spent time in jail in 2002 after his car allegedly ran over four people sleeping on a footpath. He once again went behind bars in 2007 in Jodhpur on charges of hunting an endangered deer.

Salman, 44, has played a policeman in several films like "Wanted", "Garv" and "Auzaar".

He started out in 1988 with the film "Biwi Ho To Aisi". Salman gets philosophical when he says a star's image is something created by others and if an actor himself starts believing in that image, then he is done for.

"When you think that you are a normal person, you are not a star; then you don't get impressed by your image that 150, 200 or 500 people have created and crores of people have appreciated that image; if you don't believe in that image of yours and you know for a fact that is not you but a created thing, you will be fine. If you start believing in that image of yours, then you are done with," Salman told in an interview.

Known for his beefed up muscles, the actor said he lost weight for "Dabangg".

"I lost a lot of weight and then it looked weird. You are playing a cop who is totally ribbed. I really wanted to look ribbed in the film," said Salman.

Salman had grown his hair for "Veer", a look he really liked, and now he sports a moustache for the new flick, which also stars Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi. He admits he was a bit apprehensive about going for an image makeover this time.

"I had just finished 'Veer' and I had to cut my hair very short... I didn't want to. The long hair was looking good. It took so long to grow them; so I didn't want anyone to cut them off."

About the moustache, Salman said: "Five-six months before the film, Arbaaz used to come with different kinds of moustaches every week. I said I'm shooting for a film, can I grow a moustache...Somewhere Sonakshi also had this thing for her dad's moustache. If you see my moustache, it's somewhat like his only," he laughed.

Funnily, Salman is seen doing some really weird dance steps in the songs of "Dabangg". Why is that?

"Actually in this film, I copied everyone who can't dance. There is a nightclub-dancing style, there is one dancing style when you are in a function, and one dance is when you are drunk and enjoying yourself. This film is dedicated especially to those people who can't dance," Salman told.

'My next films are not out and out action films'

Your one-liners became very popular in Wanted. In Dabangg, too, they sound interesting.

What is it with the dialogue Oye Kaalia, kitne aadmi the? They are just dialogues, it's just the way it is said.

Here I use the line, 'kamaal karte ho yaar aap' very often. Also, isko kisi na kisi cheez se har cheez yaad aati jaati hai (the person is always reminded of things from a conversation) like

Yeh minister bada lafander hai. Lafander se yaad aaya, aapne ab tak apna taarif nai karaya humse (this minister is such a scoundrel. Speaking of a scoundrel, you haven't introduced yourself to me.)

Haraamzade, yeh kitaab kidar hai. Haraamazade se yaad aaya, aapke aadarniya pitaji kaise hai. (son of a b****, where is my book. That reminds me, how is your esteemed father?)

Yeh ladki bahut kamini hai. Kamini se yaad aaya, aapki patni kaisi hai aaj kal (this girl is a b****. That reminds me, how is your wife doing these days?)

You're doing a lot of action films lately like Wanted, Veer and now Dabangg. What is drawing you to them?

Heroism. The only thing about action films is the heroism. My next films are Ready, Love Story and Kick but they are not out and out action films. Ready is a stylish film while Love Story and Kick are romantic films.

Salman replaces Big B in Bigg Boss............

MUMBAI: If Bachchan can do it, Khan can, too. And it’s official now: Salman Khan will host Bigg Boss next season. After a great season with the Big B as the host, the channel is hoping Sallu will keep audiences hooked in season four as well. Earlier, both Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar had been approached to host the show. But, sources said, things didn’t work out in either case.

Interestingly, since Kaun Banega Crorepati will air on another channel in the same time slot, Bollywood’s favourite bad boy will compete with Bachchan for TRPs. ‘‘This is the standard procedure that channels follow,’’ said Khan, shrugging off the comparison. ‘‘I don’t really care about TRPs. I just like connecting with my audience, which is why I’m doing more of television.’’

Salman added, ‘‘For me, television is a way of returning the love and affection that I have got from the audience for the past 22 years. Now they get to see me in the comfort of their homes and that too for free.’’

Unlike Bachchan, who played the friend, philosopher and guide to inmates of the house, Khan will be his brutally honest and spontaneous best on the show. Of course, comparisons are bound to be made. Does that bother him? ‘‘Why should it?’’ asked Khan. ‘‘He had his style and I have mine. Besides, Mr Bachchan is going to host another show in a different format. All these comparisons are nowhere in my mind.’’

DabanGg Promo Gets Mind Blowing Responce

The Dabangg promo has got a mind blowing response from those who have seen it in the industry. The promo was talk of the town when first aired midweek and no doubt has become the most anticipated film of the year from a box office point of view. The promo was with the prints of Khatta Meetha and reports suggest the response is similar from the public as well.

Salman Khan is looking awesome and reminds one of Dharmendra in the 1975 mega hit Pratiggya. The look of the film and the dialogues are all set for huge appreciation and it will be no surprise if the film goes above Wanted at the box office.

The wait is for the music of the film and if that is a hit then the sky will be the limit for the success of this film.

Dabangg looks set for a mind boggling start all over India at multiplexes and single screens when it releases on 10th September which is Eid week.

Extreme Makeover:-Arbaaz Khan On Dabangg

This is probably the first time you'll see Salman Khan in the avatar of a boorish cop. In brother Arbaaz Khan's maiden venture as a producer, Salman plays a corrupt policeman from Uttar Pradesh. The film, Dabangg, will be directed by Anurag Kashyap's brother, Abhinav Kashyap. Dabangg is the Hindi word for fearless, and that describes Salman's character in the film aptly.

After a long time, Salman will discard his 'cool dude' aura and will step into a role that demands him to be uncouth and unpolished. He will master the UP slang and accent. He played a small-time goon in Tere Naam (2003), but this role, Arbaaz says, “…is terrific. Salman's fans have never seen him like this before. Besides, I haven't cast Salman because he is my brother, but he fits the character perfectly. When Abhinav offered me a role in the film, I immediately wanted to produce it. For long, I had been toying with the idea of turning producer. This was just the excuse I needed to take the plunge.” Arbaaz does have a role in Dabangg. But Salman, of course, is the star of the film.

The film sees the debut of Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi. Talking about the unusual casting, Arbaaz says, “There's no point in casting a heroine who has already been seen four times with Salman. I wanted to cast a stunning new girl and Sonakshi fits the bill. She has lost a lot of weight. She still needs to lose a little more.”

Arbaaz Khan: DABANGG isn't WANTED's sequel

The promo of Salman Khan's DABANGG is out and those who have seen it are raving about it. It looks uncannily similar to the 2009 Salman Khan starrer WANTED. However, Arbaaz Khan, who is the producer of DABANGG doesn't think so.

"DABANGG isn't WANTED's sequel. It's very different from WANTED. It's far more in a believable space though it's a commercial film. The action is similar to WANTED but that's about it. That was a city based film. Ours is a small town slick action drama. But the kind of audience that liked WANTED is surely going to like DABANGG."

Salman Khan looks very similar to his WANTED's character in DABANGG. Even in DABANGG, he's playing a police officer. Doesn't Arbaaz think so? "That's true. But Salman's character in WANTED was very brooding, quiet and serious. Here, he is entertaining, jovial and far more verbose."

DABANGG will see Shatrughan Sinha's daughter, Sonakshi Sinha making her debut. Being directed by Abhinav Kashyap, DABANGG is slated to release on September 10.

"Dabangg will work" - Abhinav Kashyap

Another morning's newspaper. The headline reads - 'Dabangg trailer opens with a bang. The twitter world going ga-ga about the trailer.' A quick shower and off I head to meet the debutant director of Indian cinema's most talked about film releasing this Eid. When I enter Abhinav Kashyap's just done up office in Andheri, no wonder, I feel that he is sitting there like the cat that got the cream. He comes across as a man who Bollywood knows as Anurag Kashyap's brother. "I can't escape that, can I?" Abhinav questions, and continues, "But it's good for me when my career is just about to begin." Cheeky, isn't he? Come to think of it, Abhinav and Anurag are poles apart in their cinematic takes. Kashyap has just finished eating his lunch and is about to start the interview when I spot an A2 size frame of The Godfather behind his back. "It will soon change in the coming years. We will definitely have our Bollywood ones up there in a few years." That's how quirky he can get. Just then his assistant director on the same film offers me something hot or cold. I choose the latter and in minutes, open my fizzy can of Diet Coke. Now understand this: Abhinav Kashyap talks too much. He rarely talks about himself. He doesn't want to tell you what he already knows or what he just read. He's not much interested in discussing what he's already done. He maunders, protracts, divagates through his ideas and never pauses. Mostly, he wants to tell you what he's thinking. And he's thinking Dabangg all the way. But that's it. From there on, Kashyap does not shut up. In part one of the exclusive two part series, in a no holds barred interview, UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent talks to the man in news for all the right reasons, Abhinav Kashyap, on his debut film which is touted to break all records once it opens at the box office this September.
